Please Don’t Inaugurate Big Biz’s Sudden Political Switch

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

Whatever these Big Business hacks are selling?  I ain’t buying.  Unfortunately, FAR too many people are.

The Big Banks, Big Investment, Big Tech…ALL the Bigs?  Are all of a sudden Donald Trump’s bestest buddies.  And we’re supposed to pretend they didn’t spend the last decade doing EVERYTHING they could to ruin him.

Big Biz has for DECADES had a REALLY good thing going in DC.  For the last half-century-plus, they’ve made tens of billions of dollars in political contributions.  And received tens of trillions of dollars in government cronyism.  It’s undoubtedly the greatest Return On Investment (ROI) in human history.

Trump again threatens to threaten all that.  Well, Big Biz tried being his enemy last time.  And it got them nowhere.  But they now know even better Trump is keenly susceptible to flattery.  So they’re now, SUDDENLY, trying to kill him with kindness.

All of the Leftist policies Big Biz is suddenly shedding?  The highest profile amongst them being all the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) programs they’ve all been running for decades?  Were idiotic and anti-productive from the outset.  And they all knew it.

So all they’re doing is FINALLY shedding for political purposes?  The dead weight they chose to carry for political purposes.  That’s a win-win as far as they’re concerned.

(You’ll note the nation’s Leftist claptrap factories - government schools K-12 and the colleges and universities?  Remain supremely insular and insulated from reality, and are not getting rid of their DEI idiocies.)

Big Biz bigwig Jamie Dimon has been the CEO of JPMorgan Chase since 2006.  He’s made many, MANY billions of dollars for himself and his closed Wall Street circle by mass-outsourcing US jobs, bleeding Americans dry and generally making things in our country worse.

This same Jamie Dimon just bizarrely, hypocritically waxed poetic on the plight of average Americans: “People were angry at whatever they called the state - the 'swamp.' Ineffective government. That people wanted kind of more pro-growth and pro-business policies, that they didn't want to be lectured to on social policies continuously. I think it's the lecturing part of it. It's social superiority, it's the 'My way or the highway.’…I do understand it, 'cause I think there are a lot of legitimate concerns that Americans have. For example, ineffective government, they're angry about it. They're angry about immigration. There're people with legitimate issues….There's a sense of gloom out there about the economy. Do you understand that?”

Well just eight months ago, before Dimon and all of Big Biz’s mass transformation?: “JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon…(was) suggesting that average Americans are doing well financially despite rising inflation and stagnant interest rates putting a strain on household budgets…. Downplaying concerns about the economic impact on everyday Americans, Dimon…(said) ’The consumer's in pretty good shape right now.’”

Well that’s quite the switch.  It sounded then an awful lot like Dimon was lecturing Americans about how much better they have it than they think they have it.

But that flip-flop ain’t nothing.  To wit: I give you Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.  Zuck recently said he would end the ridiculous, Leftist, censorious, fake “fact-checking” on his platforms.  And will instead copy Elon Musk’s X community ratings.  Which will certainly be an improvement…if and when it happens.  The new regime would be more speech, the old regime is much less.

But does anyone really believe this newly minted Zuck?  This is the same Zuck who first implemented his fake “fact checker” regime in response to Trump winning in 2016.

And Zuck cooperated for years with Big Government by censoring his platforms at their behest.  And said NOTHING about it for years.  He’s only come clean about that now because it is politically helpful now.

And in the midst of Zuck’s ongoing censorious collusion with Big Government?  He spent $400+ million trying to un-elect Trump in the 2020 election.  Which makes me think he didn’t mind quite so much his censorious collusion with Big Government.

And you’ll note Zuck has never said anything at all about altering his platforms’ algorithms.  Which are, of course, the computer programs that dominate and decide what we see - and do not see.  Zuck can pretend to care about free speech - while he continues to censor us with his algorithms.  Shadow banning, anyone?  We can only community note what Zuck allows us to see.

All of this Big Biz sucking up to Trump?  Is in the hopes of their maintaining their comfy, crony DC set up.  And most unfortunately, it’s working.

Trump has already called “great” the corrupt, America Last H1B visa scam.  Which allows Big Biz to mass-import wage slaves to take jobs from and undercut the wages of Americans.  Not sure how that fits into the “America First” motif.

And do we really think Trump is going to repeal Big Tech’s blanket amnesty law known as Section 230?  As Trump repeatedly promised he would?  I certainly don’t think he will.

And do we really think Trump and his DC Republicans will FINALLY rein in Big Tech’s MASSIVE abuse of our digital data - and FINALLY pass a privacy law?  Because DC has NEVER passed a privacy law?  I certainly don’t think they will.

Do we really think Trump and his DC Republicans will do ANYTHING their newest, bestest Big Biz buddies don’t pre-approve?  I certainly don’t think they will.

I ain’t buying any of it.  You shouldn’t either.
