PolitiFact Lies During Its Presentation of the 'Lie of the Year' Award

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

Body-Checking the Fact-Checkers – POLITIFACT

  • Hard to believe the consistently slanted outlet was…well, slanted, again.

As we plunge deeper into December, we begin to get into that time of year where year-end lists and retrospectives are rolled. (Of note: We will be issuing our own media awards, and the annual Townhall 50 in the coming weeks.)

PolitiFact has unfurled its brand of accolade, “The Lie of the Year.” In an unsurprising fashion that is totally on-brand for the site, the deeply egregious falsehoods from the left were completely dispatched in order to saddle Donald Trump with the award. Biden is “sharp,” Biden will not step down, accurate clips of Biden are “cheap fake videos,” Kamala is not the Border Czar, Biden will not pardon Hunter – all were not as big as Trump accusing immigrants of eating pets.

Not only were his comments based on reports out of Springfield, Ohio — and that Vance received from his own constituents — but in its piece, PolitiFact actually (get this) delivered lies of its own.

The site made a point in mentioning that Trump’s comments led to bomb threats and school closures, despite the widely reported fact that these were shown to be hoaxes, most of which originated from sources overseas.

Legalized Press-titution – REUTERS

  • Wondering if Biden told the news outlet that “The money is on the dresser, sugar-bottom!”

Some things to first consider. The press has told us that Donald Trump is going to corrupt and manipulate the media complex when he takes office. Also, the press LOVES to cloak themselves in the noble mission of holding those in power accountable. Just hold those concepts in mind as we now learn that Joe Biden paid a news syndicate to perform acts on his behalf, like an escort on-call.

Mike Benz has found a series of payouts to Reuters from a collection of U.S. government agencies.

Benz states that the payments were made to compel the news syndicate to go after Elon Musk and/or his business interests in its reporting. While this is not made immediately clear — an explanation possibly is that Reuters offers a series of business services and software work that was contracted out by a number of government agencies — it is still a bad position for what is primarily a media corporation.

No news outlet should have itself beholden to the government in this fashion, as it can be leveraged with that money. If you do not kill a story that is hurting the administration, for instance, there could be a threat of pulling the contracts for those services being commissioned.

Both Kinds of Standards – METRO UK

  • You all do realize that this means you also called Biden and Harris “Nazis,” correct?

One of the common retorts from opponents when Trump was named “Person of the Year” by Time Magazine was that this was also an award given to Adolph Hitler. This blithe dig is one thing when seen from randos on social media, but it is really bad to see a news outlet lapsing into this lazy Godwin move in its coverage.

And yet, there is the Metro UK doing just this. What is telling is that in the coverage of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris picked four years ago, you saw not a single reference to the despots who previously won.

Body-Checking the Fact-Checkers – CNN

  • I see somebody went and woke Dale up, just before going back to work.

The four year vacation is over! Get to work!
This must have been the clarion heard at CNN, as we see that Daniel Dale has been rousted from his avoidance of Joe Biden’s prevarications and is getting his muscle memory back in action to go after Donald Trump.

It will be expected this will become a busy time ahead for the ardent Canadian truth detector, who was so dedicated to his craft he managed to spot all of one falsehood told by Kamala Harris during her debate. (We collected nearly two dozen from that performance, in an effort to show Dale how his job is to be performed.)

DNC PR Firm – CBS NEWS

  • So are we to gather that anything a SCOTUS member does for the first time is to be considered “historic”?

A brief reminder, Norah O’Donnell is set to leave the CBS Evening News desk in a matter of days.

We just needed to point that out before we present to you the magnificence in the type of reporting we will be lacking in the days ahead, leaving us bereft and pining for the froth of yesterday.

Norah went on a lengthy segment and interview with Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson as she makes history. Was this based on some type of key legislation or a ruling made that altered the American experience?
Nope. KBJ sang a song on Broadway. That was it. That was the “historic” accomplishment.

We are going to miss you, Norah!
