NY Times Frets About Potential Lawfare From Trump in Unironic Fashion, and a Noted Antisemite Loses a Job

News Avoidance Syndrome – THE NEW YORK TIMES

  • The possibility of Trump doing what Biden IS doing is the bigger threat.

Coming right on the heels of the Trump conviction, The Times delivers an ironic hot take on things, fretting about the possibility of Donald Trump targeting opponents with the legal system should he become reelected. Now, OBVIOUSLY, this is an impacted opinion when weighed against no fewer than four court cases being brought against a presidential candidate, but the lack of analysis of what Joe Biden has been doing with the courts is even more glaring. 

Repeatedly we have watched as the Biden legal effort has done things like jailing a 75-year-old woman for praying outside of an abortion clinic, arresting journalist Steve Baker for opposing agencies, or this week, charging a doctor with four felony counts for exposing a hospital performing gender-affirming surgeries on minors.

Anti-Social Media – THE HILL

  • Someone should remind Briahna when antisemitism was condemned by the press.

Over at The Hill, “Rising” hostess Brianha Joy Gray has become known for taking rather notably hostile positions regarding Israel and the war in Gaza. The latest saw her speaking with a guest who was a family member of a victim of Hamas, and while listening to her account, rolling her eyes and being visibly perturbed by what she was being told. 

Wisely, the outlet decided this was finally a breaking point, and she has been relieved of her post.

Race to the Bottom – VOX MEDIA

  • How it becomes racist and sexist to not prepare women of color for the leadership positions you demand they be given.

Vox has one of its trademark “explainers” about the challenges being faced by college presidents these days, specifically the unplanned controversies and other challenges they face in today’s climate.

And, of course, like anything else that carries a negative tint, these bad things manage to affect women and minorities far more than white males:

Even before this year, college presidents have said many of the roadblocks they encounter in the role are unexpected. Women in the position are more likely than men to feel they weren’t adequately informed of the challenges of the role during the search process, while presidents of color were more likely to express this than white presidents, according to the American Council on Education.

Artisanally-Crafted Narratives – THE ATLANTIC

  • To revise history, David, it helps to learn it first.

Since it is all the rage these days to invoke Nazis and Hitler in regards to Donald Trump, derangement sufferer David Frum saw a need to get in on the act. He delivered a thread meant to serve as a cautionary tale, explaining essentially that it is the fault of the U.S. that Hitler rose to power. “How the hell…?!” you may be rightfully asking. 

Well, you see, we did not buy enough stuff. Before Hitler took control of Germany, we imposed tariffs and other economic restrictions on Germany, preventing democracy from flourishing, you see. Of course, in the years leading to his rise to power, the U.S. was dealing with the small matter of the Great Depression, but otherwise, a solid theory on Frum’s part.

Reporting on the Mirror – NETFLIX

The Los Angeles Times came up with an intriguing dose of speculation: Will it be seen that Netflix enters into the news game? It sounds like a daft proposition, at first, but the outlet makes a case for it that makes sense.

The leadership at the streaming giant has long balked at the idea, but there are other entertainment categories they had previously pledged not to be interested in that are now part of the lineup. Live television was one, but now John Mulaney hosts a live talk format on the platform. Sports was another realm supposedly off the table, but there will be two NFL games showing on Netflix on Christmas. 

Were the news option to become a reality, it could be a real challenge in the mix. CNN has been looking to segue some of its content onto its Max streaming platform, but that outlet pales compared to Netflix's size and success.
