There’s that quote from “Charlie Wilson’s War” that’s timeless. It’s before Rep. Charles Wilson (D-TX), socialite Joanne Herring, and CIA agent Gust Avrakotos are about to head to the Afghan-Pakistani border to drum up support to fund the Mujahideen. Wilson, played by Tom Hanks, leaves to catch some sleep, overjoyed that he beat a cocaine probe helmed by Rudolph Giuliani. The late Philip Seymour Hoffman, playing Avrakotos, tells socialite Joanne Herring, Julia Roberts’ character, “It's just been my experience that when people with money and too much free time get involved in politics, pretty soon, I forget who it is I'm supposed to be shooting at.” No, I’m not suggesting violence, but the money and too much time part fits Elon Musk’s “America Party” scheme to a tee.
Elon can’t be serious. First, he has no idea how much time and money are required to make this a viable political entity. He cannot run his companies and do this, whatever it is, at the same time. Second, it’s not a centrist party if the most vocal people are anti-Trump Republicans and Democrats. Third, we don’t need this—all it will do is help Democrats win.
I don’t want a centrist party, I want a party that’s to the right of Francisco Franco.

Musk mulled this third party after the reconciliation package passed, which he erroneously thinks is a spending bill. Some pitch to get the center animated about elections and save the country from the debt and deficit. This isn’t new, but for Musk, it will be: there is no center. Centrists flee when the going gets tough, like Evan Bayh and Olympia Snowe in the long, long ago. They settle for mediocre pieces of legislation and lack the backbone for the fight that is American politics. It’s a gutter duel, and the center is too weak to stomach it. Any “America Party centrist” candidate would fold, while siphoning off Republican votes.
The Republican Party often drives me insane, but it’s the best we’ve got. I’d rather primary out crappy Republicans and focus with a party that already has a strong national apparatus. Trump has transformed the GOP for the better; it’s a blue-collar, more diverse party, essentially the Obama coalition from 2008 and 2012. The base is a multi-racial, working-class party—unbeatable if Trump were eligible to run for a third term. And we’re going to throw it all away with this “America Party” nonsense.
If Mark Cuban, former Vice President Mike Pence, and the like are supportive of this effort, I want no part of it, and neither should any sane voter. Also, its “rollout,” if there ever was one, was not real. The paperwork hasn’t been filed despite people thinking it was for hours over the weekend.

Enough. We don’t need another party that has someone who isn’t serious at the helm. If Musk resigns from everything he’s worked for, then we’ll revisit the matter; for now, it’s all talk, no action. And whatever actions have been taken are peak stunad.

People who have come out in support of Elon Musk's new America Party:

- Mark Cuban
- Anthony Scaramucci
- Brian Krassenstein
- Thomas Massie
- Mike Pence
That's pretty much all I need to know about Elon Musk's new America Party.

There's already an America Party—it’s called the Republican Party. Is it chock-full of idiots who make things more complicated than they should? Sure, but it’s the best we’ve got. I’d rather have Trump at the head of my party than Pence, Anthony Scaramucci, or Brian Krassenstein.
Notice how the "HE DID A NAZI SALUTE" crowd is super supportive of @elonmusk's third party plans?
