Israeli forces are dismantling Hamas, killing its executive leadership, and slowly removing any trace of its existence in Palestinian political life. Gaza will see peace, but only after Hamas is destroyed. As for the security situation, the IDF will handle that for the foreseeable future, as it should, following the gruesome and brutal October 7 attacks. The deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust will never happen again, and if regional war must be waged—so be it. Yet, this ceasefire merry-go-round Hamas is using to buy time as Israeli intelligence and military assets pick off its commanders is getting tedious. There is no such thing as Santa Claus nor a Gaza ceasefire agreement.

Hamas has stated its goal is to destroy the Jewish state—why would it want a ceasefire? Its actions on October 7 are all you need to know in blood-curdling fashion. These aren’t terrorists who can be trusted, nor do they have an interest in peace. It’s death and martyrdom. So, imagine my shock that this ceasefire agreement that Joe Biden has been lusting for fell apart recently (via Politico):

The deal to bring an end to the fighting in Gaza is on the brink of collapsing — and there is no clear immediate alternative agreement that could be put forward in its place, according to two U.S. and two Israeli officials.

The current proposal — pulled together by the U.S., Israel, Egypt and Qatar over several weeks in July — is the strongest form of the deal to date, the officials said, because it includes terms that are tailored to the demands of both Hamas and Israel. Israel has signed on, but Hamas says in public statements it will not accept the pact.

That has U.S. officials increasingly worried that this proposal will falter just as earlier ones did, with Hamas and Israel at odds and no clear path to end fighting or bring hostages home, the officials said.

Earth to Biden State Department: Hamas doesn’t want to release the hostages. It only wants to drag this on, buy for more time, and continue to find ways to kill Israelis in whatever way it can despite its massively degraded capabilities. We’re negotiating with terrorists; this is what happens. Are we shocked that Hamas is mocking this process?

There must be a realization that Hamas will never accept an agreement. Isn’t this like the 30th proposal that’s been rejected? If not, it sure feels that way.

Biden is trying to make this his crowning achievement abroad after a series of catastrophic failures. We’ve had to endure the shambolic exit from Afghanistan, jumping into another quagmire in Ukraine, and the destruction of the Gaza pier, which was attacked repeatedly by militants. Biden has allowed Houthi rebels in Yemen to disrupt global trade. This Gaza ceasefire is Joe’s Hail Mary, and it’s become something worse than a Faustian bargain. It shows how easily manipulated and ignorant this president is on foreign affairs, despite having decades of experience supposedly under his belt. Have we forgotten that Biden has been wrong on almost every major American foreign policy endeavor? He was a trainwreck then, and given the reins of power, it’s more destructive.

Biden wants this deal to happen for his sake and to help his party win an election—Gaza has become an albatross around the neck of Democrats with young and far-left voters. We should call them by their real name: antisemites. Democrats need the votes of people who are a stone’s throw away from suggesting Jews be rounded up and hurled into concentration camps over this conflict, so this ceasefire, which is never going to happen, has become Biden’s unicorn.

Hamas could end the war tomorrow by releasing the hostages, a facet long forgotten in most liberal commentary about this war. It refuses to do so. And now this situation is even more chaotic since we technically don’t have a president. Biden has long checked out politically and mentally.
