As you are all aware, Senator Dianne Feinstein released her list Thursday of guns she would like to see banned. I am certain that she feels morally and intellectually superior to the great unwashed out there who do not want to see Second Amendment rights infringed upon. I am certain that the lefties out there feel as if they have seized the moral high ground here for our children.

Funny isn’t it?

Kids die outside the womb and it is a tragedy. Kids die inside the womb and it is a “choice.”

Another thing that happened on Thursday was Senator John Kerry undergoing his confirmation hearings to be the next Secretary of State. Senator Barbara Boxer asked Kerry is he still supported the United Nation’s Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. (That acronym would be CEDAW for short.) That’s a very noble and high-sounding name. You can, as the newsboys used to say “read all about it” here. To save you the trouble of clicking, here is an excerpt from the site:

“By accepting the Convention, States commit themselves to undertake a series of measures to end discrimination against women in all forms, including:

·        to incorporate the principle of equality of men and women in their legal system, abolish all discriminatory laws and adopt appropriate ones prohibiting discrimination against women;

·        to establish tribunals and other public institutions to ensure the effective protection of women against discrimination; and

·        to ensure elimination of all acts of discrimination against women by persons, organizations or enterprises.”

I don’t think anyone would disagree that discrimination against women is a wrong. And to the U.N.’s credit the effort is dedicated to end human trafficking. And that I can respect. But within the Convention, is Article 12 which reads: “States parties shall take all appropriate measures to eliminate discrimination against women in the field of health care in order to ensure, on a basis of equality of men and women, access to health care services, including those related to family planning.” The National Right to Life Committee notes that at times various government agencies have interpreted that to mean limits on abortions equal discrimination against women. Senator Kerry backs the United States entering into this convention.

The idea that the UN is pushing the idea of increased abortions is not expressly stated in the Convention; but it has been interpreted as such by groups as the European Parliament to mean that very thing.

On one hand, leftists like Dianne Feinstein will introduce bills to limit gun ownership in the name of saving lives. On the other, they tout the taking of life by couching it in such terms as “termination” and “choice.” And they place it in things such as CEDAW mixed in with things that are on balance good ideas.

By entering into UDAW, John Kerry would take Hilda Solis’s HHS decision one step further. Not only would corporations be incapable of opting out or objecting to abortion on religious grounds, neither would you or I, by virtue of a treaty.

The stark reality of the pro-choice side is that the choice it champions is that of killing another human being. And as they go on their rampages to remove guns from the hands of law abiding citizens who have no interest in committing acts of violence, they celebrate the act of murder as a personal freedom. Even as a left-wing abortion advocate in my younger days, I wondered from time to time why we liberals championed abortion and never seemed to advocate adoption.

The other stark reality is that the blood of a person in utero is just as red and just and just as real as that of anyone walking around without an umbilical chord. Whether it is done with a gun or at an abortion clinic, a person is just as dead.
