Please Reconsider and Recognize a Free Kurdistan – A Letter to President Trump and Secretary Tillerson

Dear President Trump and Secretary Tillerson,

While most of the media was obsessing over the sexual predations of Harvey Weinstein and the NFL freefall brought on by its own pitifully misinformed “kneelers,” it failed again in its responsibility to understand and fully report on a huge story. That story is that ninety-three percent of the Kurds in Northern Iraq recently voted for independence.  And tragically, your Administration has deemed its vote, in the words of Mr. Tillerson, “illegitimate.”

Moreover, the Iraqi government with the help of American supplied equipment and Iranian militias are attacking our loyal and trusted allies in the semi- autonomous Kurdish region of Northern Iraq.  This is a strategic blunder which the anti-Trump media could use to further berate your presidency, if it were not so clueless.

In January of 2015, Townhall ran my six-part series entitled Create a New Kurdistan and Destabilize Iran.  The series also appears in my new book, Lessons from Fallen Civilizations, Vol II – The Way Forward. The series appeared while Obama was president and while ISIS was still in control of most of its new caliphate, an area in Syria and Iraq, nearly the size of Great Britain.

At that time, I had no way of knowing that a Kurdish vote for independence would so soon eventuate.  Nor did I have any idea that the United States would elect an outsider such as you, President Trump.

Gentlemen, as one who voted for Mr. Trump and is still a supporter of your Administration, I believe you have come down on the wrong side of the issue regarding a free Kurdistan. If you don’t reverse your position, I believe you will have missed a historic opportunity to encourage the coming Islamic reformation and to begin reshaping the Middle Eastern landscape.

Sarah Huckabee-Sanders defended your Administration’s position by stating that a unified Iraq could push back against Iran. This isn’t even a possibility. Thanks to the abject foreign policy failures of your predecessor, Iraq is a country where we lost 4,000 American lives liberating it from Saddam Hussein, but which is now allied with Iran! The Iraqi army has now attacked the Kurds in the Kirkuk province and driven them out. The president of the semiautonomous region of Kurdish Northern Iraq, Masoud Barzani, has just resigned. But the Kurds’ desire for a free homeland will not die. Nor should it.

In our fight against ISIS, the most evil Islamist terrorist regime the modern world has ever seen, the Kurdish Regional Government of Northern Iraq (KRG) proved itself to be an excellent ally of the US. Were it not for the Kurdish Peshmerga fighters, Iraq might well have become an oil-rich terrorists state by now.  The Peshmerga (translation – those who face death) lost 1,700 killed in the war to defeat ISIS. Based on this alone, the Kurds deserve their own homeland.

In its fight to the death with ISIS, many of its soldiers were comprised of all-female fighting units. This is because the Kurds, although they are a predominantly Muslim people, do not subjugate women, but honor them. Additionally, they do not call for its destruction, instead are a staunch ally of Israel. Finally, they do not persecute minorities such as the Yazidis or the last Christians among them who still speak Aramaic, the language Jesus spoke. Instead, they protect them from murderous Islamists. Sadly, as the Iranian-backed Iraqi forces attacked the city of Kirkuk—which had been liberated of the ISIS invaders by brave male and female Kurdish forces—100,000 civilians were just recently forced to flee the once-again war zone.

There are tremendously important reasons why America must reverse course and not abandon our loyal allies, the Kurds. When asked about the clashes between the Kurds and Iraqis, you, President Trump, replied, “We’re not taking sides…”

This is not a sage position of neutrality, but an abandonment of an ally who faces far superior fire power from American-supplied Iraqi forces which are now augmented by fiercely anti-American Iranian militias.  Your position puts every American ally operating in dangerous regions of the world on notice that the US cannot be trusted.

Another reason why you should support and recognize a free Kurdistan, as mentioned above, is precisely because they are a Muslim people which does not treat women as chattel, because the Kurds protect minorities, and because they are a staunch ally of Israel.  The West is in an ideological struggle to the death with fundamentalist Islam. A cunning president of the United States could proclaim to the world, “We support our beloved Kurdish allies because they represent a new path for all the Muslim world to follow.” And in so doing, President Trump, you could encourage those Muslims who wish to reform Islam and to live in peace with the infidel.

Your unequivocal support for a free Kurdistan could also become a mechanism for the destabilization of the very dangerous regime running Iran, one which supports terrorist networks all around the globe, one which has every intention of becoming a nuclear-armed enemy of the U.S., but yet is one which is hated by most of its own countrymen. If the United States had military and intelligence personnel based in Northern Iraq, on the border of Iran, it could much more easily infiltrate not only the Kurds living in Iran but the other persecuted minorities which ring Iran such as the Azeris, the Arabs, and the Baluchis, who all would join an insurrection against the hated Islamo-fascists running Iran.

Finally, a fact which is widely underreported by the lazy and clueless American media is that throughout Iran mosques are empty and most have closed.  Should the Iranian regime fall, more than likely, Iran would cease to be a Muslim-majority nation.  This too would be a gigantic win for the West over resurgent militant Islam which threatens us.
