It is hard to know what shocks eco-leftists more: that President Trump keeps his campaign promises or that their green gravy train is derailed. Let’s be honest — it’s both.
On the campaign trail, President Trump promised he would end the Green New Scam. And now that he’s delivering, Democrats are crying because the taxpayer spigot has finally been shut off. Just this week, the administration canceled nearly $8 billion in so-called “clean energy” grants, and the crocodile tears from the left are flowing like a river.
Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Ranking Member Martin Heinrich of New Mexico denounced the move as “nakedly political, unhinged, and unlawful.” The senator’s outrage is as predictable as it is hollow. What he and the rest of the Crying Caucus don’t want you to remember is the billions already wasted on failed green projects—many of them in their own states. When the dollars are flowing to their friends and pet projects, they’re silent. When the taxpayer subsidies dry up, suddenly it’s a constitutional crisis.
Look at where some of that “green” money has gone.
A $5 Billion EV Charger Boondoggle
The Biden administration promised to transform the nation’s electric vehicle infrastructure with $7.5 billion of your tax dollars. According to the Government Accountability Office, as of this spring the program has produced only 68 operational charging stations nationwide. That’s not a typo. Sixty-eight stations—for $7.5 billion dollars. Do the math and you’re looking at about $110 million per station.

And for the few stations that have gone live, many are concentrated in Biden-leaning blue states, or the very swing states Democrats were desperate to capture in 2024 like Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Democrats insist EVs really are the future, but after billions in taxpayer handouts, Americans still can’t count on more than a handful of government-funded chargers across the entire nation.
Even in the places where chargers exist, reliability is a major problem across the EV industry. A Bay Area study found more than one out of four fast chargers didn’t work when tested, with failures caused by broken payment systems, damaged cables, or software errors. In other words, Americans are paying millions per plug — for plugs that might not even work.
The Electric School Bus Fiasco
Not to be outdone, the administration also rolled out a $5 billion electric school bus program, complete with a cringeworthy Kamala Harris press conference about how much she loves “big yellow school buses.” Three years later, the results are even more embarrassing: just 60 buses delivered nationwide. That’s a whopping $83 million per bus.
And the problems don’t stop at delivery numbers. In Sen. Heinrich’s New Mexico, four districts were awarded early funds for electric school buses. I reached out to them to get the results: One district received two buses and reports they work fine. Two other school districts admitted their buses have been plagued with charging issues or are already sitting in the shop. And the state’s second-largest district, Las Cruces Public Schools, was supposed to receive five buses worth nearly $2 million in taxpayer funds but won’t even confirm whether they ever arrived. Before blasting President Trump, Senator Heinrich might want to ask the district why nearly $2 million for buses in his state delivered silence instead of results.
Keep in mind, even if the program worked exactly as expected, each electric bus costs roughly three times more than a traditional diesel bus. Democrats defending this program aren’t defending safe, reliable student transportation—they’re defending a bloated subsidy scheme where working families pay triple for less performance.
The Real Grievance
The Democrats crying foul over President Trump’s decision to pull the plug on these programs aren’t mourning the loss of some inevitable green future. They’re mourning the loss of preferential taxpayer dollars that have long been steered to their states and their allies. Nobody heard complaints from Senator Heinrich or his colleagues when their states were pocketing the lion’s share of the handouts. But once the gravy train stopped, they suddenly discovered their outrage.
The truth is simple: if electric chargers, EV school buses, and other taxpayer-funded “green” experiments were truly the future, they wouldn’t need constant bailouts. They wouldn’t need $7.5 billion to produce a handful of stations or $5 billion for 60 buses. They would stand on their own. But they don’t.
President Trump promised to end the Green New Scam, and he’s keeping that promise. Democrats can cry all they want, but the American people know waste when they see it. Shutting down this reckless spending isn’t political—it’s common sense. And that’s exactly what voters elected him to do.
