The Queen Should Declare War and Save Britain

The 2017 United Kingdom Parliamentary Elections highlighted, if for a brief moment, the role of the Monarch in the U.K.; a role that should be used in the fight against Islamism.

With a Hung Parliament as the initial result of the election, Prime Minister Theresa May obtained an audience with Queen Elizabeth for the purpose of asking permission to form a coalition government. The Queen, as is custom, granted the request and Ms. May is forming a coalition government with the Unionists in Northern Ireland.

The Monarch is the power that names the Prime Minister, controls the passports issued within the United Kingdom, and has the power to requisition ships for use of the nation. The Monarch has the power of royal assent in which her signature makes an act of Parliament become law.

She can still legally refuse such assent and keep a bill from becoming law though such a practice has not been used in over 200 years and considered in over a century.

The Monarch is also whom the Armed Forces swear their allegiance to in the United Kingdom and the Queen has the power to declare war on behalf of the United Kingdom. The Monarch is also the Supreme Governor of the Church of England; a little used role in a church that increasingly has gone liberal and, not coincidentally, has lost many members.

While the Monarch has seldom used her powers, Islamists have attacked British citizens with religious determination. September 11, 2001 was not only the worst terrorist attack in United States history, but was also the worst terrorist attack in British history. The July 2005 London bombings, the 2007 Scottish airport attack, the on-the-street beheading of British soldier Lee Rigby in 2013, and three attacks this year are all the proof that Britain is under siege from Islamism.

Britain, like America, is under attack from a religiously motivated enemy, in a world war that will last for decades. And like America, the nation is not fully aware of the threat it faces from enemies; the enemies that want to use their belief in God to acquire nuclear weapons for the purpose of destroying Christians, Jews, and any of the others residing in Western Civilization.

There is one official in the United Kingdom who is bound only to God and not the politicians. That is the Queen. The Queen has the power to mobilize her country for a fight that her nation has not fully come to grips with, and will continue long after she meets the God she represents.

If there is any semblance of wanting to save what makes Britain great, the Queen should use her power as the Supreme Governor of the Church of England and as head of the Armed Forces to declare that Great Britain is at war against Islamism; the same Islamist radicals that tried to kill her grandson Prince Harry when he served in Afghanistan.

The Queen is the one person who, this day and age, can be the Churchill who will motivate her nation in perpetuity. The Queen’s greatest legacy must be that she warned her nation of the spiritual test it faces, at home and abroad from Islamism and its unwitting ally, secular humanism.

If the Monarchy of the United Kingdom will not ever use its reserve powers, especially against an evil such as Islamism, than what is the point of having such powers? Britain desperately craves leadership, as does the rest of Western Civilization. If anything, the success of the films Amazing Grace, The Iron Lady, and The King’s Speech attest to that.

If she stands against this abominable enemy, she may stand alone, as Britain stood alone against Hitler in 1940. But in doing so she will provide a formidable moral bulwark so that future generations of Brits will, in the words of Churchill, “carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.”

Anything less simply continues the slow, almost imperceptible, decline of the Monarchy while unarmed British citizens continue to be slaughtered by Islamists.
