Bias Crimes and Science Denial at the Academy

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

On today’s university campus, being “victimized” can be a full-time job. They actually offer full majors in this stuff. But more and more, offending certain people is treated like a crime; they actually call the police. We happened to be at Grand Valley State University (GVSU), but this insanity has metastasized and is showing up all over.

We were at GVSU with our Genocide Awareness Project (GAP), a huge pro-life display that features abortion victim photos. One of our volunteers — let’s call him John Dillinger — was replying to a female student, posing as a male, who said that abortion was “a woman’s choice.”

Dillinger pointed to the GAP signs and asked, “What about their rights? These women didn’t get to choose.” (Several signs feature preborn females.)

“Gender is determined way after that,” she retorted.

Suddenly, they weren’t talking about abortion, anymore. Her newer, hotter button was gender assignment. She was offended Dillinger would even suggest that a preborn child could be female. After all, a preborn can’t yet decide whether he/she is a boy or a girl.

We can’t make this stuff up.

“No, gender is determined at conception,” Dillinger replied. We often have to give lectures on basic human biology, so he thought nothing more about it.

Little did he know.

Half an hour later, two police officers strode up. It seems Mr. Dillinger was wanted for questioning. At GVSU, if you say gender is determined at conception, they call the law, because you have just offended — are you ready for this — transexuals.

The officers informed Dillinger that a “bias report” had been filed. This can happen anytime anyone says anything that upsets anybody. A bias report can be placed in the offending student’s permanent record and could potentially vandalize his future career.

Bias reports are weapons to punish nonconformist views. Or, in this case, the statement of a scientific fact.

Only by denying medical science can you escape prosecution for this thought crime. Makes us wonder how many biology professors are rotting away in the GVSU gulag. Not too sure about that. Anyway, ...

Dillinger avoided incriminating himself further and was able to leave campus without further ado.

Dillinger got away, but what about the students who can’t escape?
