President Donald J. Trump recently unloaded on NBC late-night host Seth Meyers via a post on Truth Social. Said the President in part: “Seth Meyers of NBC may be the least talented person to “perform” live in the history of television. In fact, he may be the WORST to perform, live or otherwise. I watched his show the other night for the first time in years. In it, he talked endlessly about electric catapults on aircraft carriers, which I complain about as not being as good as much less expensive steam catapults…”
First of all, Trump is entirely correct about the catapults. The steam catapults do perform consistently better than the electric. Additionally, approximately $1 billion of the taxpayers’ money has been wasted trying to bring the electric catapults up to speed.
Later in the post, President Trump also highlighted another truth regarding Meyers: “100% ANTI-TRUMP…” To that point, one can reasonably assume that Meyers couldn't care less which catapult works best on our aircraft carriers. He was simply looking for another way to smear Trump.
That, in turn, is easy to understand if you know the history between Meyers and Trump. A history which some believe has so haunted Meyers over the years that it would be plausible to believe he has been in constant therapy and needs a support animal around the clock simply to make it through the day.
Before getting to that truly relevant history, a bit of much-needed context. Over the years – and even the decades – businessman, candidate, and President Trump has offered his opinion on a great many subjects and about a great many people. For those who have not kept track, Trump is invariably correct most of the time.
While almost all on the left and some of the irrelevant “Never Trumpers’ still lingering around on the right will never admit it, none of this is a mystery as to why. Trump’s instincts and experience are second to none. Since his mega-bestselling book “The Art of the Deal” first came out in 1987, I have literally recommended it to hundreds of people in the political and business worlds. The reason being that I believe it to be the best “real-world” business book ever published.

What Trump accomplished in the business world in his late 20s and early 30s is beyond impressive. Each accomplishment would have equaled a very successful career for most CEOs. But not for Trump.
Each success only motivated him to create an ever-larger success. And just what generated those continual successes in his late 20s and early 30s? His instincts.
It was Trump’s instincts which built his experience. Both then laid the foundation for his iconic business empire.
And it was both which eventually motivated him to shift his gaze from the business world to the political and the rapidly declining state of our nation. Most especially during the President Barack Obama years.
Trump soon began to realize – or to be more accurate, remind himself – that his unique skills could be put to use saving the country he loved. With the advent of the disastrous Obama administration, he began to give it more and more thought. A fear, possibly, which may have triggered Meyers and then President Obama.
With that background and timeframe in mind, we transition back to that history between Trump and Meyers. A history that really began in 2011 at the White House Correspondents Dinner.
A dinner some still believe gave birth to the presidency of Donald Trump. It was then that relatively unknown -- and unfunny -- comedian Seth Meyers was hosting the event with President Obama playing the part of his smirking, laughing, and decidedly mean-spirited accomplice.
During the dinner, Meyers repeatedly savaged private citizen Trump with joke after joke. While literally looking down on the New York City businessman from the podium, Meyers – and eventually Obama - literally laughed in Trump’s face as he launched multiple insults meant to demean Trump in public. All apparently because both Meyers and Obama did fear Trump might enter the political arena.
How bad and cringeworthy were the “jokes” aimed at Trump? The liberal news site Vox called the routine “vicious” while The Daily Beast labeled it “merciless.”
And how low did Obama go? He gleefully narrated a video equating a future Trump White House to something worse than TV’s “Beverly Hillbillies.”
After the event, Trump rightfully called the attacks “nasty and out of order.” And so, they were. But…who really had – and is having – the last laugh? Trump, for sure.
Since that dinner, a number of people – including liberals – have wondered if that was the exact moment that Donald Trump decided he was going to run for president. The then vicious and unfunny Meyers seemed to think so. During a later appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s show, Meyers admitted in part: “It’s not the outcome I wanted, but that’s history. I got a man elected president.”
Fourteen years after Meyers and Obama demeaned themselves by going after Trump, he is the President of the United States…for a second time. For over a decade and a half, Trump hasn’t just been living rent-free in the mind of Meyers; he has built multiple skyscrapers there, each emblazoned with a blinking-neon-red Trump sign at the top.
There are not enough support animals or therapy sessions in the world to calm the troubled mind of Seth Meyers.
