You’ve heard it a million times, this election is close. But you’ve only heard that because, well, this election is close. There’s a lot of confidence out there among people on both sides, much of it is fake and one side is going to be wildly disappointed this week. In one way or another, everything you do in the three days needs to be directed toward winning that election so those disappointed people are Democrats, not us.

I didn’t have a team in the World Series, the Detroit Tigers made the playoffs but lost in the second round. Still, I watched because Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge are absolutely amazing players and, when the opportunity presents itself to see them play, you should avail yourself of it as much as possible (of course, Freddie Freeman stole the show, but this isn’t about baseball).

In Game 5, the Yankees were up and coasting to victory, they were going to force a return to Los Angeles and a Game 6 for sure… Then, they didn’t execute; the wheels came off. Judge dropped a routine fly ball, bad throw to 3rd base, the pitcher didn’t cover 1st base, and so on. The celebration was canceled and the Dodgers won the World Series that night because the Yankees didn’t execute all the way to the finish line.

Don’t let that be us – never spike the football on the 5-yard line.

No football game has ever been won at halftime, yet a lot of them have been won as the clock ran out. Elections are like that – you have to fight like you’re 10 points behind, no matter what. That famous “Dewey Defeats Truman” headline from 1948 didn’t occur in a vacuum, Truman out-worked Dewey and brought the victory home in the end.

I see many commentators on both sides assuring their audiences that their candidate has this in the bag. “Our side always polls poorly” or “The momentum has swung back our way” are common on cable news, radio and in columns.

Allow me to say that they do not know; they are lying. Lying is fun; lying gets eyeballs and clicks; it gets people to subscribe to whatever you’re pushing them to subscribe to because they want to be told more of what they want to hear. That makes them money, it doesn’t win elections. The same goes for confidence.

You’ve heard a lot recently about how the momentum is on Donald Trump’s side. So what? The election doesn’t count momentum in polls, it counts votes. Unless you vote, whatever you’re feeling in your heart of hearts does not matter.

Go vote, today if you can, tomorrow or Tuesday, depending on what’s happening where you live.

And don’t go alone, arrange to bring with you friends you know will vote the same way (screw Democrats, they can get themselves to the polls or not go at all). Even if you’ve already voted, drive a friend (or friends – multiple trips never hurt anyone) to the polls. Don’t tell them you’ve already voted until you get there, lest they might tell you not to drive them. You have to get them to the polls to vote.

A vote cast out of love counts exactly the same as one cast out of hate, disgust or indifference. As long as they’re going to vote for Republicans, get them to the polls.

The campaigns will project confidence because that’s what they have to do – no one is going to vote for Eeyore. Don’t waste your time arguing with liberals, you’re not going to change their minds at this point. They’re either fine with mutilating the genitals of kids or they’re not, they’re either fine with men pretending to be women beating the hell out of them in sports and stealing their scholarships or they’re not.

The last days of a campaign are not about changing people’s minds, they’re about getting your people to show up. Get them to show up. If you know someone sitting on the fence, see if you can convince them for a couple of minutes, and if you do get them to the polls immediately. But if you can’t, move on. They likely won’t vote, or they’re wishy-washy enough to vote against you simply because you’ve harassed them.

There’s no point at this point in laying out all the reasons Democrats are horrible or why a vote for Republicans is a vote to restore the economy – these people either get it or they don’t. The people you know are either rational and will vote the way that is best for the country or they won’t. If they won’t, ignore them. If they will, throw them over your shoulder and carry them to the polls if you have to. Whatever you do, no matter what you think the outcome will be in your area or state, you must vote.

If we’re going to win, we have to win by more than Democrats can cheat, and that can only happen if everyone does their part. The country and the world need each of us right now. For the love of God, go vote for Trump and all Republicans!
