The Culture of Death Makes Life Meaningless

Planned Parenthood’s denials to the contrary, many women suffer extreme guilt and mental anguish as a result of having an abortion. Killing one’s child is simply not as easy the abortionists would have you believe. And we’re seeing this truth play out most illustratively in China, where the country’s “One Child Policy” has created such angst that, according to the Obama Administration, it is partly responsible for the fact that 500 Chinese women took their own lives each day in 2009.

That’s 3,500 female suicides a week, 15,000 female suicides a month, and 182,500 female suicides a year. And that doesn’t even include tragedies like the one the world learned of recently of a woman who died after she fought unsuccessfully to protect the life of her unborn child at full term.

And while this may be the price China’s purveyors of the culture of death are willing to pay for gender selection, it’s not an overstatement to say they are literally killing themselves to accomplish it under the façade of “population control.”

Although this is shocking, it was not completely unanticipated.

Sacrificing the unique value of all human life on the altar of choice, the culture of death reduces life to its least common denominator, thereby producing throw-away-people who are as easy to discard as cola cans and candy wrappers. And this is proven by all the Chinese women who take their own lives each day, yet there is so little outcry.

This same deadly strain of culture has impacted America too, albeit in less obvious but no less sickening ways. Abortion advocates here at home are so determined to justify this evil that they deny even that women experience any long term regret for abortions despite overwhelming proof that they do.

It was just over a year ago that the Boston Herald reported on Norfolk Probate and Family Court Judge Christina L. Harms’ order to force a 32-year-old woman, referred to by the pseudonym “Mary Moe,” to have an abortion and then be sterilized—all without the woman’s consent.

Although Harms used Moe’s mental condition to justify a ruling that forced abortion and sterilization upon her, Harms ignored the fact that Moe’s mental problems were documented to be the direct result of an abortion she had to end an earlier pregnancy—an abortion she regrets because she believes that through it, “she killed her baby.”

Fortunately, Harms’ ruling was overturned before it could be implemented. Yet the point is clear—mental angst frequently overtakes women who’ve had an abortion (and especially women, like those in China, who are forced to have one.)

Women are literally killing themselves to escape the pain the culture of death has wrought in their lives.

Ironically, abortion was touted as part of women’s liberation in the late 1960s and early 1970s – even as forced sterilizations were still ongoing in America, having been touted for decades by abortion advocates as part of their plan for women’s health. But now we can see quite clearly that there’s nothing liberating about it. Rather, it has made an untold number of women slaves to an anguish that overtakes them when they realize their child has been killed.

The reality is that many of these women are now taking their own lives because they see no hope in the “choice” that is offered by the culture of death.

The truth is these women have hope despite the horrors they have been through. The ones who provide it to them are often the countless number of pregnancy resource centers that charge nothing for their compassionate and valuable services to such women and take no taxpayer funding either. The fact that abortion proponents both inside and outside of government are persecuting such centers is testimony to the fact that they must be doing something right, as the Alliance Defense Fund knows full well in its legal defense of such centers.

Those who promote abortion make life meaningless, but those who understand its realities bring hope to those who desperately need it. They deserve our gratitude and support anywhere in the world they provide it.
