2010 Race of the Day: Open Seat in Illinois

With incumbent Congressman Mark Kirk running for President Obama’s Senate seat, Republicans are well positioned to continue their thirty year hold on Illinois’ 10th Congressional District.

In February, Illinois Republicans chose small business owner Robert Dold to succeed Kirk in this district making up the northern suburbs of Chicago. A third-generation native of the Chicago suburbs, Dold’s credentials include a law degree from Indiana University and an MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Business. Bob runs and operates a small family business that was founded in 1860, and serves on several different boards and associations where he fights for business from the local to the federal level. He remains an active member of his local community—serving as Scoutmaster for the same troop where he became an Eagle Scout.  Dold is the ideal candidate for Illinois’ 10th this fall. He is committed to fighting for job creation, energy independence, meaningful health care reform, fiscal discipline and accountability, and the safety of America and American citizens.

Dold’s opponent this fall is Dan Seals, who certainly has his work cut out for him.  Already defeated twice for this seat, Seals will have a tough time doing well in a political environment favorable to Republicans. Having failed to win this seat in two of the best years for Democrats in recent memory, it’s not surprising that the Democratic establishment lined up behind Seals’ primary opponent, state Rep. Julie Hamos.  However, in a stunning primary victory, the radical left lined up behind Seals and overwhelmed the DCCC’s preferred candidate.   Counting among his allies the likes of disgraced former columnist Helen Thomas, who recently praised him at a fundraiser, this career campaigner - who does not even reside in the district - is prepared to do or say whatever it takes to get elected to office.

The Tenth Congressional District of Illinois is located in the northeast corner of the state. The District is mostly comprised of the northern suburbs of Chicago, and extends all the way to the Wisconsin border. In addition to a long stretch of shoreline on Lake Michigan, this district is also home to the Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Northbrook, Deerfield and Highland Park. Even in Democrat’s banner years of 2006 and 2008, Dan Seals proved incapable of closing the deal in Illinois’ 10th. Not only failing to defeat Kirk in Democrat banner years 2006 and 2008, Seals underperformed Obama—who won this district by 61% in 2008--by 13.5%.

I hope you will take the time to learn more about this outstanding candidate on his website and remain up to date with the latest news and information about his campaign as Election Day approaches through Facebook and Twitter.
