Artisanally-Crafted Narratives – THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

  • So the official word is not valid, but randos are the gold standard.

The Wall Street Journal had a breaking story regarding Elon Musk and his status at his auto company, Tesla. The outlet reported that the board had reached out to companies involved in recruiting in order to begin its search to replace Elon Musk as the CEO.

Now, that the paper reported on this based on anonymous sources is the first yellow flag to go up. But soon after publication, the board’s chair Robyn Denholm issued a complete denial, and later Elon Musk followed suit. Making this all the worse is that Musk and Denholm attest that they had issued categorical denials to the outlet ahead of publication, yet those quotes were not provided in the piece.

This is particularly disturbing to see from a respected business outlet that relied strictly on anonymous sources and disregarded corporate comments regarding a major business decision that could impact the markets.

Reporting on the Mirror – PBS / NPR

  • This constitutes a major step at finally defunding the public entities.

In a move sure to inspire lawsuits, President Trump has issued an executive order to pull the funding of public broadcasting, which would affect National Public Radio, the Public Broadcasting Service, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. This would involve cutting off over $500 million paid out annually.

This will far be the final word on the matter, as we have already seen with the case of Voice of America, where the major changes and firings there have been met with judicial pushback.

Legalized Press-titution – CBS NEWS / THE EMMY AWARDS

  • There is no way this is real. Seriously…this has to be a trolling parody move, right?

Just as the maelstrom surrounding CBS News and “60 Minutes” has been at a peak – what with a defamation settlement near to be reached, after a longtime Executive Editor resigned and Scott Pelley lectured the parent company Sunday evening – things have turned positively obtuse.

All of this melodrama derives from the hatchet-job edited interview with Kamala Harris last October and the ensuing controversy for the program, leading to the lawsuit brought by President Trump. Now comes the bizarre news.

  • The show has received Emmy nominations.

  • Some involve this disaster of an interview

  • And one nomination is for (seriously) “Outstanding Edited Interview”

We have to say, we might have to agree with what White House Communications Director Steven Cheung said about this honor:

Of course it’s nominated for best editing, because it takes some serious talent to edit Kamala’s answer into something that’s coherent and understandable – which in the end they still failed to do.

Presentation Paradox – CNN

  • Once again, Harry Enten threatens his own career with his factual reporting.

Over the past few weeks, and leading right up to the turgid explosion of data on Trump’s 100th day as president, we have been overloaded with polling supposedly showing public displeasure with the administration. And yet…there seems to be just as much conflicting evidence. Cue Harry Enten, the narrative-busting data guru at the Defamation Network, CNN.

In stark contrast to what his own colleagues have been selling to their dwindling audience, he comes out with a series of results that frankly few at his outlet wanted to see.

Once more, we quietly suggest Harry polish up that resume, just to be safe.

Hoax & Change – CNN

  • This lone study would have saved the planet? Then someone else should do it!

Our favorite sportscaster turned climate scold Bill Weir made his return, and he did not come close to regulating his hysteria. Looking at the decision of the administration to end the regularly scheduled climate reports and dismissing the staff issuing such, Weir described this as Trump’s “all-out assault on science.”

Not content with that hyperbole, Weir then resorted to the high level of hysteria so often seen from the climate scolds. Look, we all know these environmental doomers are prone to outright melodrama, but we seriously doubt it helps their cause to admit to theatrical comparisons:

So, right now, everybody is hurting on the front of this story, and it remains to be seen what becomes of this assessment, the people working on it. But, once again, really hiding the science, telling people essentially to stay seated in a burning theater and removing the exit signs as well.
