The Sunday Shows Did Not Disappoint in Delivering Democratic Dysfunction

Pre-written Field Reports – CBS NEWS

  • The only difference was which Republican unwound Margaret.

Another “Face The Nation,” another poor showing for Margaret Bernnan. This time it was Senator Rand Paul who was brought on the show, and the discussion was over the dissolving of the Department of Education (DOE). Brennan was, as expected, upset the DOE was being targeted, so she brought up that Paul’s state receives $2 billion in federal education aid, but this ignores that she referenced money given to the state to operate their schools, something it can manage without DOE intervention. And as the senator states, money is not proportional to results.

DNC PR Firm – NBC NEWS

  • Delivering questions based on party talking points is not a lame look at all, Kristen.

The triumvirate of Sunday gabbers on the networks share a common trait where they deliver challenging questions to any Republican guest, but the Democrats who come on are rather coddled and granted every chance to deliver party talking points.

Showing this in prime fashion was Kristen Welker, who set the ball on the tee for Chuck Schumer:

WELKER - Some constitutional scholars and fellow Democrats, Leader Schumer, say this is a constitutional crisis. Do you agree? Is the United States in a constitutional crisis?

SCHUMER -  Yes, I do, Kristen. And democracy is at risk. Look, Donald Trump is a lawless, angry man. He thinks he should be king. He thinks he should do whatever he wants, regardless of the law, and he thinks judges should just listen to him. Now we have to fight that back in every single way.

Well done, Kristen, you’ll receive a prime guest list at this year’s Nerd Prom for your dutiful service.

Democratic Custodial Services — ABC NEWS

  • No mention of his major shift on the issue then, is that right?

Over at ABC on Sunday, Jon Karl entertained the current media glomming name Bernie Sanders, who has been trying to, once again, position himself as a viable candidate for president. Sanders actually stated he thought border security was a vital issue. Interesting to hear, considering that all of the things Trump is currently doing to successfully curtail crossings are items Sanders was avowed to opposing.

Of course, this contradiction was not anything Mr. Karl felt was something that needed to be brought up as a follow up.

Pathological Media Amnesia – NEW YORK MAGAZINE

  • Now, Ed, what has changed over the past four years, besides your position?

Columnist Ed Kilgore came out with his overview on how Democrats can survive, and then thrive, in the Trump 2.0 era. Yes, it is the type of guidance for the Democratic Party we see in the press, all while we never really see such advice for how the GOP might succeed. One of the methods he proposes is that “the filibuster still matters,” so they can employ its use to combat the Trump administration.

This is quite the departure from his past position on this tool, when he stated it has long been used to halt progress, was in need of reform, and has cost the country gravely over the generations. He held that position, of course, in the early days of the Biden administration when Republicans had the filibuster at their disposal.

Presentation Paradox – ABC 10 NEWS

  • This move has dire effects on those doing things illegally.

The local San Diego affiliate came across a dire development when it discovered that bolder — and more dangerous — razor wire had been installed at the base and at the top of the border wall. While the report later went on to describe how the new methods had deterred crossing to a point that those have fallen to a rate of 30 a day where previously the norm had been well over 1,000 illegal arrivals, it saw the need to lead with the dire information of how dangerous these new installations can be:

Spiraling wire enveloped in spikes that can easily cut into your skin now covers the top and bottom of San Diego’s border wall from San Ysidro to the Otay Mesa Port of Entry. The daunting image of sharp unforgiving metal is meant to deter illegal crossings into the United States.

Legalized Press-titution – CNN

  • Still looking at them as a valid source, eh?

CNN seemed to think this was a significant milestone in the Israel-Hamas war, evidenced by the bold use of BREAKING.

It reports that 50,000 have been killed in Gaza, which sounds gripping until you get a peek at the sourcing. This is the number provided by the Palestine Ministry of Health, which is a PR arm of the terror group Hamas. So despite the numerous time news reports based on this source have blown up in the faces of outlets, here is the news leader still repeating their claims with a straight face.

Anti-Social Media – SALON

  • Apparently they have no mirrors at the outlet…

Amanda Marcotte is straining valiantly to make “Mar-a-Lago Face” happen online, insisting that it has fallen into common parlance. She uses this to describe those on the right who are ungracious in appearance, suggesting that garishly appointed facial features are emblematic of the allegedly fascist tendencies of the Trump era.

Not meaning to impugn the looks of Ms. Marcotte herself (though also not stopping anyone from doing so), it is always an issue when those on the left choose to attempt insulting appearances as they promoted Sam Brinton as if everything was natural, pushed Jill Biden in her sofa-pattern dresses as a fashion icon, and push biological men in beauty pageants.
