Our country is going to hell in a handbasket…Nobody will have the opportunity I had…That’s not what our boys died for…It’s just not the same. That isn’t what we fought for…Our country is going to hell in a handbasket.”

This heartrending, accurate and powerful statement was made recently in an interview with 100-year-old US Marine Corps veteran and Silver Star recipient of the WW II Pacific Theatre including the Battle of Guadalcanal, Carl Dekel.

Sergeant, Retired Dekel also added:

We’re the land of opportunity. People travel far and wide to come right here to America. We’re the most generous country in the world. We give and give to other countries who aren’t as fortunate because we want to help people…What other country sends their young men to other parts of the world to fight, not for power, not for money, but solely for other people’s freedom. And we’re the most free country on this earth.”

As a veteran of two of our wars, a business man, and college professor, I am in total agreement with SGT Dekel. I am appalled, fearful for the future of our republic, gobsmacked that I put my life on the line in foreign countries and on the streets of Los Angeles for years and advised in three other countries for the institution of the rule of law only to see the Democrats selectively use prosecutions and law enforcement, to include the FBI, blatantly against selected political enemies.

Yes, the current state of our republic suffers and is dying under the Biden administration's endless list of self-centered amateurs and those blundering ignoramuses of our federal legislature, including RINO Republicans, as well as Democrat governors and mayors of collapsing state governments and our largest urban cities over-run with crime.

The litany of disasters grows hourly: Recession, record-breaking inflation, gas prices continuously rising beyond record levels, no southern border admitting criminals, terrorists, disease infected illegal aliens, human trafficking beyond record, and drugs killing 100,000 Americans in 2021 and the death toll rising daily.

Perhaps surpassing even the above calamities of the Democrats is the continued illegal failure of our federal government to properly and fully enforce the existing dually constituted laws of habeas corpus (6 Jan 21 prisoners), federal mandate to protect the sovereignty and security of the nation (southern border), equal protection under the law (federal AG targeting political enemies to harass and prosecute without warrants or cause), while failing to prosecute the highly destructive rioters of the summer of 2020 and the federally illegal protests and harassment of our Supreme Court justices, just to name a few of the blatant and clearly impeachable transgressions of our laws.

Still there is hope. The recent Supreme Court decisions eliminating the federal mandate for abortions, shooting down (pun intended) New York's restrictions on the public carrying of firearms, and the eliminating the West Virginia v. EPA environmental over-reach are a few examples.

Legislatively, despite the Democrat majority in the House and their slim majority in the Senate, some of the damaging liberal agenda has been thwarted such as the elimination of the filibuster constraints, the failure of extreme violations of the Second Amendment, and some of the disastrous, frivolous, inflation and recession facilitation by Biden. His rampant spending of money we do not have, borrowed at increasingly high interest rates and by printing cash have been thwarted. Those include the defeat of Brandon’s Build Back Better plan despite passage of other multi-billion-dollar programs and exorbitant and inappropriate levels of aid to the Ukraine.

It is our duty as American patriots to rededicate ourselves to accelerating the resistance to the destruction of our republic by our actions, our vote and our money. Find what and how you can contribute to this urgent recovery effort, and get out and do so.

Despite this bleak outlook for the future of our republic, there is hope and a way forward. For the disastrous elements of the left’s destruction of our way of life and the components of the plan of action to redeem our nation, I highly recommend my long-time friend, Army battle buddy, and Townhall columnist COL (R) Kurt Schlichter’s new book dropping 12 July 2022, We'll Be Back: The Fall and Rise of America.

Contrary to the well-earned and well-lived sentiments of SGT Dekel, misguided, uninformed and under educated liberals claimed on Twitter this week that "The fourth of July in my household is canceled. I cannot in good faith celebrate a day of freedom when half of those that live here lost theirs," before adding a "f*** the Supreme Court!"… "That's not my independence day," said another. They are so very wrong and ungrateful for what they have that the entire world envies and wants to emulate.

I fully agree with SGT Dekel that American is in danger of self-immolation. I also believe there is hope to save this greatest noble experiment in the belief of…."a government of the people, by the people and for the people” envisioned, created and hard-fought by our Founding Fathers who with firm conviction and united assertion pledged their, “…lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor” on the line to give us the great gift of this federal republic of ours whose bounty and freedoms each generation of Americans need to earn and defend to the death.
