The Media's Cynical Ploy

Trump made the legacy media relevant. And then they willed him away.

Let’s face it. In helping to get rid of the man that made them rich with outrage bait, book deals, and TV speaking spots, the media clearly didn’t think through what this would do to their careers.

With a whole generation of journalists who built names on “being hard on Trump” and fighting the imaginary fascism that they invented in their minds, these people are now left with a dead end for their careers.

Now, in a cynical ploy to remain relevant, these people are stuck in an endless cycle of continuing to obsess over former President Donald Trump even as he moves back into private life. Boring, no? As good little lap dogs for the Democrat establishment, they aren’t able to pretend to do real journalism and ask hard questions of President Joe Biden — so what do they have left?

Puff pieces on Biden simply do not garner the same amount of interest as a wild tale about “Russia” or a cartoon villain in the White House. It could, if they would do honest reporting. Biden’s ties to China, his son Hunter’s dealings with Burisma, and a slew of other scandals are waiting there for real journalists to start asking questions — but these mainstream media pundits and talking heads won’t do it. They can’t. It would violate their ideology.

That is why we are seeing a massive rise in alternative outlets that are doing the work that CNN and the Washington Post will not do.

The corporate media needs Trump. They crave Trump. The American people simply do not share their obsession any longer. It is sad and pathetic, like a former lover who refuses to move on after a bad breakup.

Things are so bleak for these people that on Friday The Washington Post published an article titled, “The Trump Show’s Been Cancelled. Who Will Be America’s Next Main Character?” The obvious answer would be Biden, as the president of the United States, who is normally the focus of the most reporting in the world. Without wanting to do hard journalism on him though, they need a new subject of their irrational obsession.

Attempts have been made to make freshman Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene their next public enemy, but that appears to have fizzled out for them as the public largely did not take their bait.

The article acknowledged this and more, listing people who have stoked public rage, and admitting that none have the same magnetism as President Trump did. The writer concluded that “maybe we just need time to recalibrate to a new kind of main character. The best way to disavow Trump’s legacy isn’t to stay hooked on craziness. It’s to replace him with a protagonist defined by something other than the ability to provoke rage.”

Imagine being a journalist, writing that sentiment, and expecting to be taken seriously.

Perhaps the new “main character” should be these same journalists who grifted for years off fake news about President Trump, and the beautiful truth that they killed their careers.

People want the truth. And the mainstream media is yesterday’s news.
