Longing for LBJ

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

This week, President Joe Biden did what he normally does – behind the scenes, he bashed Israel and its prime minister, Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu for its supposed misconduct in the war in Gaza.

Not exactly shocking, I know.

But what is shocking, to me, is what else the President said

“It was pointed out to me — I’m being very blunt with you all — it was pointed out to me that, by Bibi, that ‘Well, you carpet-bombed Germany.  You dropped the atom bomb.  A lot of civilians died,’” (and) “I said, ‘Yeah, that’s why all these institutions were set up after World War Two to see to it that it didn’t happen again — it didn’t happen again.  Don’t make the same mistakes we made at 9/11.  There was no reason why we had to be in a war in Afghanistan at 9/11.  There was no reason why we had to do some of the things we did.”

According to President Biden, the U.S. bombing conduct during World War II – when the U.S. was fighting the actual, real Nazis, and the equally militaristic and bloodthirsty Japanese – was such a “mistake” that the whole world was forced to set up international institutions to make sure the U.S. and other Allied conduct “didn’t happen again.”   And it didn’t work, because the U.S. is apparently so bad, we made the same “mistake” after 9/11 in Afghanistan.   It sure sounds like President Biden thinks the U.S. is a “systematic malfeasor”, if not a “systematic war criminal.”

This is nothing more than ridiculous left-wing propaganda.

The international institutions that were created after WWII were created for two primary reasons: to create a forum to head off the next world war, and to prevent mass human rights tragedies from occurring, as occurred during WWII, which were solely the responsibility of Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan.  Those two nations attempted to enslave large portions of the world and slaughter millions of people, and for a time, they succeeded.  This could not be allowed to happen again (or so the thinking went).

JOE BIDEN WAR

What was the U.S. “guilty” of during World War II?   It was “guilty” of fighting back against the actual “forces of darkness” in an, admittedly, imperfect manner (see the Japanese internment).  But the bombings of Dresden, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki, in particular, were not “mistakes” made by the U.S.

But I can’t really blame Joe Biden for regurgitating this left-wing propaganda.  He is just restating what has been drilled into him by his foreign policy minders, who are of (much) younger and less well-educated generations.  The real fault for this comes from our out-of-control left-wing educational establishment, which has been miseducating these people, and U.S. college students in general, for generations.  This, as demonstrated by the insane rioting on campus, is a group that teaches so much that just isn’t true, such as Israelis committing “genocide” against Palestinians, the Iranian regime being a potential friend and a human rights proponent, and the U.S. making “mistakes” in the bombing of Dresden, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki.

This all began in 1969, when the left-wing college radicals chased out the last “proud-to-be-American” Democrat President, Lyndon Baines Johnson, over the Vietnam War.  When these radicals graduated, they became teachers, and they continued to propagandize for their ideology.  As a result, the Democrat presidents that followed LBJ all subscribed to, and sometimes professed, a “blame America First” ideology, which encouraged the appeasement of U.S. enemies, and the guilt shaming of the Western world (and Israel) as being uniquely evil.

Until the Democrats stop believing such preposterous propaganda, and their left-wing establishment stops teaching it to our younger generations, the U.S. is going to continue to have a huge problem in formulating a pro-America, pro-Western, realist foreign policy.  Because every time a Democrat is in the office of president, they will engage in self-hate, and appease our enemies  – just look at Iran

More than anything, what this county needs is a new Democrat President LBJ.
