Based on a survey conducted by the Pew Research Center, one-third of Democrats view Democratic Socialists of America leaders favorably. Democrats who are white, younger, or college-educated, in particular, are more likely to view DSA candidates positively.
It is confounding to anyone on the Right that so many on the Left continually fall prey to the promises, exaggerations, and outright lies of DSA candidates. Even a rudimentary review of history reveals that no socialist nation has ever advanced the wealth and well-being of its citizenry.
Rationality, Anyone?
Populations in contemporary socialist countries inevitably are doomed. Yet every day, Democrats in the U.S. continue to attend rallies, applaud, and celebrate candidates on the far, far Left – even as such candidates are mistrusted by the handful of ‘semi-reasonable’ Democrats whose numbers are continually shrinking.
How does any American with a half-decent IQ end up supporting a socialist government run by socialist leaders pushing socialist ideals — that will soon wreak havoc? We've already witnessed that Zohran Mamdani in New York, Katie Wilson in Seattle, and others are running into huge problems. And their respective bases of wealthy citizens, including entrepreneurs and corporate leaders, are moving out.
What is it about rank-and-file Democrats that eludes them? Most know or at least suspect that half or more of the campaign promises made by socialist leaders are simply ludicrous.
Take Care of Me, Please
Abolishing the police, ICE, and the U.S. Senate, and imposing rent controls can only lead to stagnation, crime, and failure. Yet the dupes succumb. Why?
The answer is that roughly half of the U.S. leans left, and roughly half of the world leans left. The irresistible lure is that the government will take care of everything. Indeed, these childlike voters fervently want to be taken care of. They want the government's mitts in everything. Rather than exercise free choice, take calculated risks, and build successful careers or businesses for themselves, they'd rather not.
Astoundingly, they believe that government is the answer to all of their needs, concerns, and fears.
Free Ice Cream for Everyone
Failed South Florida congressional candidate Oliver Larkins describes himself as an activist, union organizer, and proud Democratic Socialist. In a fiery campaign speech, he asked his audience, “Are you ready for Medicare for all? Are you ready for universal child care? Are you ready for paid family and medical leave? Are you ready for $25 an hour minimum wage? Are you ready for free college?” etc. The late, great William F. Buckley, Jr. noted that free government programs mean, of course, that someone else pays for them. In 2026, it is nearly inconceivable to realize that Mr. Buckley’s long-running popular TV show of decades ago, Firing Line, was aired on PBS!
As absurd as Larkins and other DSA candidates are, think back to when you were in high school or perhaps junior high or middle school. During class elections, did one candidate promise something such as free ice cream at lunch for everybody? Or promise other such nonsense? Did that candidate fare better than other candidates who took a more serious approach to student governance?
Thankfully, Larkins lost his bid for Congress. Regrettably, the "free ice cream" candidates often succeed more than they ever should. “Free" sells well on a local, state, or national level while in the long run it is invariably an unaffordable and ill-conceived approach to serving any constituency.
Consider those high school office seekers who made promises regardless of their ability to actually deliver. How much of the student population ever sat back and pondered what it would take to make good on those promises of free stuff? Well, many Leftists across America haven't moved on from their school days and continue to fall prey to the "free ice cream" type of candidate.
Only Small Numbers Needed
Recent analysis shows that in many primaries, such a small percentage of people show up to cast their votes that if Leftist candidates have a good ground game, they can actually become the standard-bearer with only a tiny fraction of the overall voting population. This has happened throughout the summer across America.
Democratic Socialists are well aware of this phenomenon and bank on it to the extreme. Then, in general elections against someone on the Right, if enough voters in a jurisdiction fall for the free ice cream approach to governance, perhaps aided and abetted by well-honed Democrat cheating schemes, watch out. Zohran Mamdani types are going to be getting into high office.
Still Cheating After All These Years
Wouldn’t you know? During audits of the New York City election last November, a sizable number of ballots were questionable. The number of such ballots was actually greater than the margin by which Mamdani defeated former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Said another way, while a socialist runs New York, he might not have been the choice of the majority in the general election. No matter. In America, we don't seem to overturn even the most corrupt of elections. Witness the presidential election in 2020 and, at the state level, for example, the election of Katie Hobbs in Arizona.
Those of us who understand the well-established maxim, "There is no free lunch," go nuts as one moronic socialist politician after another ascends to high office, each with virtually less potential for effectiveness than a mediocre capitalist-oriented candidate.
It’s beyond maddening that Leftists never seem to learn from those who have escaped socialist countries and who have political horror stories to tell.
