Sen. Jon Husted (R-OH) is asking Rep. Max Miller (R-OH) to resign and drop out of his reelection campaign amid domestic violence allegations involving his ex-wife Emily Moreno and his daughter.

The scandal has garnered significant public attention, as Moreno is also the daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH), and Miller is running in one of the most competitive House districts in the nation. President Donald Trump has also privately warned Miller about the political risks, according to Axios. 

“Anyone who commits domestic violence is not fit to serve in Congress,” Husted said in a Thursday statement. “The House Ethics Committee should thoroughly investigate any credible allegations, and any member found to have committed domestic violence should resign from Congress immediately.”

“Given everything they are facing, I do not see how a campaign for Congress benefits any of them. I believe Max would be making the right decision to step aside as a candidate and resign from Congress to focus on what is in the best interest of his daughter,” the senator continued. 

“Years from now, I believe he will look back and know it was the right choice for her,” he added.

Miller has repeatedly cast doubt on the allegations, as the ethics committee is even investigating him at his own request.

“In light of all the renewed interest in my family affairs I am going to file my own paperwork for an ethics investigation into myself to clear my name from these horrific attacks on myself and family. I have absolutely nothing to hide,” he posted to X on Tuesday. 

“We will be providing the committee all necessary documents needed for a detail examination. The accusations continue to change, but my facts stay the same. I am looking forward to my colleagues reading everything for themselves,” Miller continued.

Moreno told CNN earlier on Thursday that he “sent [his] daughter, granddaughter, and wife out of State to a secure place until such time as they feel safe.”

The deadline for a special election to be triggered in his district was Wednesday, but he still has until Monday to drop out, with the opportunity for the Republican nominee to be replaced on the November ballot, according to the New York Post.
