The Democrats are going to make the housing issue worse by driving landlords out of business. Sure, that means the government might take over your apartment building but, as people will quickly learn, there's no bigger slumlord than the government.
This writer has been in the government-owned housing in her city, and every building was run down, dirty, and dysfunctional. And the rents were still increased regularly.
That's because it costs money to make emergency repairs, maintain buildings, provide appliances, and upgrade things like paint or carpeting. Democrats don't understand this, because they don't spend their own money on anything.
Now Elizabeth Warren is getting schooled in why landlords raise rent.
People want to know: how can my landlord get away with jacking up the rent so much? pic.twitter.com/bTbutOZSYJ

It's a basic issue of supply and demand. If there are few apartments but lots of renters, rents will go up. Making it hard to build housing or allowing millions of illegal aliens into our nation reduces the supply and increases the demand. Providing Section 8 housing at inflated rates also jacks up the prices. This writer once rented an apartment that was $700 a month. The elderly owner sold to a management company that jacked the rent up to $1,100 a month and then started accepting Section 8 vouchers.
when it comes to anything even remotely related to economics, you have negative credibility

She literally has no idea how the economy works.
You should see whatโs happened to property taxes in my state. 25% increases in some towns. Landlords should not have to eat all of that. That would be my first guess.

They all assume landlords are rich. Many are middle-class people using properties for passive income and investments. They're trying to build a better life for themselves and their children.
We always knew you were ignorant, but this???

Girl, it's your policies -- open borders, restrictive demands on builders, higher govt spending (taxation) that cause owners' costs to rise. You really don't want them to recover their costs? A little Mamdani, eh, govt owning apts?
Government-owned apartments are slums. Then again, putting all of us in slums and poverty is the goal of Democrats.
@SenWarren can't make the connection between sky high taxes & utilities, and why rent is so high.

This is your "educated left " https://t.co/7c5O3G6Sk8
The "educated Left" is one of the stupidest groups of people on the planet.
The villain in this story is Senator Warren and people like her who refuse to think past their applause line.

She admits it herself. There are not enough homes. Then she skips the only question that matters. Why? Zoning that bans apartments, permits that take years, rentโฆ https://t.co/AQsddpcESk
"She admits it herself. There are not enough homes. Then she skips the only question that matters. Why? Zoning that bans apartments, permits that take years, rent controls that punish building. Every one a government policy she supports. The shortage is her movement's own construction project. And the greed theory fails arithmetic. If landlords raise rents just because they can, why couldn't they a decade ago? Greed is a constant. Supply is the variable. The landlord provides the home, carries the mortgage, fixes the refrigerator. Remove him and her constituent is not liberated. She is homeless," the user wrote.
All of this.
